11 November 2012

Measure once, drill 20 times

Fixing the space between bearing to work fine while fastened.

I measured, drilled and reweld the holes about 15 times until I got what I needed.

 Marks from failed attempts!

At the end I could screw up and redo in about 10 mins.
Lesson learned!

Done and work's nice

Z axis coming together

Today's work was all about the Z axis and I put some time to measure it precise.
A fun day.
Will miss these days when I'm done

Testing the rails

Testing the MM rails and basic structure.
A short and stupid video of MM in action.
(A titanic moment)

Z car welded

Z car is the car which will carry Z-axis with spindle.
The problem was that welding had to be done from underneath, which turned out to be pretty hard. Welds didn't look as nice as they usually do, and a lost of melted steel ended up on my neck, shoes, and under my shirt.

Everything had to be precise and squarely

Passive eye protection

Every weld had its number, because when welds are getting cold, there are some distortion of metal, and some things cant be redone.

Again, some nice welding

Ready for painting

Y axis done

The y axis is ready for welding. Can call myself a clamp master.

Checking for pressure in MIG machine

Showing off with Y axis welded with precision

Testing the manual MM

Grinding of the rails

Ready for grinding

This has to be grinded to 28 mm in height, and each side to  45°, a tough task

Testing with grinder adapters to make sure i get 45° from each side

Took me 10 days, and a lot of nerves to get desired precision, but I did it.
